Dark Gold by Christine Feehan

★★✩✩

Alexandria Houton is fiercely independent and has sacrificed a lot in order to care and provide for her younger brother. Her intense drawings land her the opportunity to work with a top gaming company. Imagination clashes with reality as she finds herself held captive by a vampire. Aidan Savage has hunted vampires for centuries but he has just encountered his greatest challenge yet. Dark Gold is the third book in the Dark Series.

Dark Gold can be read as a stand alone book. The story has an intense and gripping beginning. However it loses a lot of it's momentum as the focus shifts to Alexandria coming to terms with her new way of life. I got annoyed with the extensive self loathing and slow romantic development.

It was a bit off putting that love rivals were given so much attention. Though it made Aidan become more memorable for being patient and supportive. Especially compared to other male leads in the series.

I loved the supporting characters in the story. Alexandria's little brother and Aidan's staff were so endearing. I wish the story had given them all more time to be a family.

I enjoyed the last part of the story. By then Alexandria and Aidan's characters seemed to settle into place. I wish more of the story was of them being a loving couple. The action scenes were good and I liked how it took into account other dangers they had to face.
